Why architecture?
Yikes, so many reasons. You start with an idea, or maybe a dream, and turn it into a physical form you live and breathe. You have to be creative, but the back bone is really very pragmatic. It depends on the rational, but oh so fun when it doesn’t. It tells a story of history, place, and person. What’s not to love?
Why are you good at practicing architecture?
For some reason, my brain turns 2D into 3D automatically. I can literally see a space transformed in 3D by talking about it.
What are your credentials?
I’m a licensed architect in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland. I’m a LEED Accredited professional. I have an MBA and am fluent in the language of finance. I managed multi-million dollar operational budgets and national environmental programs. I’ve been practising architecture for over 25 years. I started and grew a very successful business. I have wonderful new and repeat clients. I’m passionate about architecture and really like working.
What do you do with your friends in your spare time?
Play tennis, take long walks with my dogs, and enjoy a chat over a glass of wine or tea to name a few.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian.
What is one thing you discovered as an adult that brings you joy?
Painting! Who knew, but it appears I’m not bad at it.
Where is home?
A tricky question. I grew up in New England, spent my 20s in San Francisco, lived in Tibet, traveled extensively throughout the South Pacific, Europe and Africa, and have spent the past 24 years in the DC metro area. But home? My secret spot is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean on 3 sides with seals and birds all around me.
What are you most proud of?
My two boys.
